Governance & Board
The SBHA board is our governing body. We are regulated by the Regulator of Social Housing.
We make sure of sound leadership and direction at the board level. Our board is made up of members with a diversity of backgrounds. Two of our board members are residents.
Our board meets quarterly to steer our strategic direction. This is given through our 2018 to 2023 Corporate Strategy. Our Senior Leadership Team is responsible for the delivery of our objectives within the business plan.
SBHA Board
Martin Hurst - Chair
Martin has a wealth of experience working within regulated environments, in government, the water industry and social housing. He has held board positions with Wandle (vice-chair), Radian and BPHA and is a board member with Sustainability in Housing. He is currently the chair of the Southern Region Flood and Coastal Defence Committee, chair of a charity providing housing for adults with severe learning disabilities and a visiting professor at University College London (Bartlett School of Planning).
Malcolm Twite - Vice Chair
Malcolm is a chartered surveyor with over 25 years' experience, formerly as Head of Corporate Real Estate at Network Rail and Head of Group Property at the Department for Transport. He is now the commercial director of Community Health Partnerships.
Amanda Carey-McDermott
Amanda was appointed to the SBHA Board as part of the arrangements for reciprocal appointments following the merger between SBHA and The Guinness Partnership. Amanda is a board member of The Guinness Partnership Limited and a board member of Guinness Housing Association Limited. She was appointed to the Guinness Care Board in February 2018. Amanda is the Managing Director for SSP Health. As an experienced Director, Amanda has an excellent track record of delivering transformational change and creative customer service solutions across a wide range of sectors.
Catriona Simons
Catriona was appointed to the SBHA Board following the merger between SBHA and The Guinness Partnership. Catriona is the Group Chief Executive of The Guinness Partnership Limited and an executive board member. She is also a board member for Guinness Homes Limited; Guinness Housing Association Limited; City Response Limited; Guinness Developments Limited; Guinness Platform Limited; Hallco 1397 Limited; Guinness Care and Support Limited. Before being appointed Chief Executive in 2015, Catriona had been Deputy Chief Executive since joining Guinness in December 2009. Prior to this, Catriona was Group Finance Director at Peabody. She started her career at Ernst & Young. She has been a Board Member of a number of housing associations.
Colin Goodwin
Colin is a chartered surveyor and independent consultant with over 35 years’ prior experience in the UK property industry, including 12 as a fund manager within the UK arm of one of the leading global investment managers. He has a proven ability in fund and portfolio management having won two industry awards. His experience includes development procurement across a wide range of property assets. He is a member of the Property Investment Committee of the Diocese of Rochester and Chair and Trustee of Bromley Scouts. Colin is a Patient & Family facing volunteer with St Christopher’s Hospice.
Dave Bradley
Dave is Director of People & Culture, Retail at Primark, and has extensive experience at the director level at organisations including Metropolitan Housing, EY and ASDA as well as experience in manufacturing, logistics, financial services, energy, aviation and real estate.
Jonny Shapiro
Jonny has a history of resident involvement and a lifelong interest in architecture and the built environment, Jonny Shapiro is a passionate advocate of the role of housing as a force for social good. He is self-employed and lives with his family in Grove Park, Chiswick, as an SBHA tenant.
Nana Banton
Nana Banton, a consultant working with companies ranging from FTSE 100 to SMEs, brings 15 years' of experience in business transformation and change management in the private and public sectors; including health, telecoms, logistics, international development and Central Government.
Poonam Bhari
Poonam is a board member who has a wealth of committee and board membership experience. She is a lawyer specialising in family law. She has vast experience of the social housing sector.
Rosemary Farrar
Rosemary has been the Chief Finance Officer at Platform Housing since March 2020. She has 35 years' experience in the social housing sector. This includes being Group Finance Director and Resources Director of Notting Hill Housing Trust (now part of Notting Hill Genesis), Circle Anglia (now part of Clarion Housing), Watford Community Housing Trust and Southern Housing Group. Immediately prior to joining Platform, she spent four years working as a consultant primarily in various interim chief financial officer roles, including for Riverside, Beyond Housing, Paradigm and Southern Housing Group.
Sue Hunt
Sue was appointed to the SBHA Board as part of the arrangements for reciprocal appointments following the merger between SBHA and The Guinness Partnership. Sue is a Board Member of The Guinness Partnership Limited, Board Member of Guinness Housing Association and Chair of The Guiness Partnership Audit and Risk Committee. She qualified as a chartered accountant at KPMG and has a background in assurance services, mergers and acquisitions and healthcare consulting. She is currently Deputy Chair of Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust and Non-Exec Director of Connected Places Catapult Limited and has held previous Board roles in housing, education, health and space technology sectors.
Tom Ground
Tom Ground works in financial services, where he is responsible for managing a £62bn annuity fund. He previously worked at Legal & General where he was responsible for their investments in housing. Tom has led several engagements setting up joint ventures between public and private entities, restructuring operations to improve performance / lower costs. Up until 2016, he was Chair of Addison Primary School. Tom is passionate about the importance of providing good quality housing to every member of the community.

Company Secretary
Angela Drum is Company Secretary for SBHA
SBHA is registered with the Regulator of Social Housing and is a Community Benefit Society, registered as a Mutual Society with the Financial Conduct Authority (No 16442R). SBHA is a National Housing Federation (NHF) and Housing Association Ombudsman scheme member. SBHA complies with the NHF Code of Governance.
