Customer Committee Applications

Would you like to work with other residents to check how SBHA and Guinness are doing and feedback your findings to the SBHA and Guinness Boards? We are looking for enthusiastic and passionate tenants to join our Customer Committee to influence how services are delivered. You are invited to put yourself forward as a candidate.

What is the Customer Committee?

The Customer Committee supports the Guinness and SBHA Boards by monitoring and providing assurance on a wide range of resident matters. This includes monitoring service performance and compliance with laws and regulations as well as ensuring that resident views are fed into Board decisions.

The Committee is comprised of up to five SBHA and Guinness Board Members and up to ten residents from both organisations. The roles we are looking to fill at this point are for SBHA tenants only, leaseholders are not eligible to apply.

How much time do members need to give?

The Committee will meet at least four times a year. All meetings will be in person and will usually be held in London during the working hours of a weekday. There will be occasional additional meetings and you may also be asked to give your views outside of meetings. 

Why should I get involved?

  • Your involvement will ensure that SBHA and Guinness focus on what is important to residents, and where we should focus improvement activity. You will be a voice for SBHA tenants and hold SBHA and Guinness to account as your landlord.
  • Successful applicants will receive £7,000 per year remuneration for the role. If you are in receipt of benefits, this payment may affect your benefits and you should consider this before you apply.
  • An induction and other support and training, e.g. on how to scrutinise performance information, will be provided.
  • Travel, accommodation and other expenses will be paid.

What qualities and skills do I need?

You must be an SBHA tenant:

We are looking for people who are:

  • Passionate about making sure we provide a great service and achieve our objectives.
  • Able to attend Committee meetings and take an active part in discussion.
  • Able to weigh up issues and make fair judgements.

You must be able to work well with others by:

  • Respecting others’ views and keeping to the Committee’s terms of reference.
  • Working as part of a team and sharing your skills with others.
  • Working in partnership with staff and other residents.
  • Being able to think about the issues and needs of other residents and not just your own experience.

You will also need to be able to act as a ‘critical friend’ by:

  • Having good listening skills.
  • Challenging performance or service issues in a constructive manner.
  • Using your experience as a resident to help SBHA and Guinness to provide good services.
