Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to the Shepherds Bush Housing Association (SBHA) website: www.sbhg.co.uk

If you have any problems, or we’re not meeting your accessibility needs, please get in touch so we can put it right.

Our website code is compliant with W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) standards for HTML and CSS. We follow industry best practices to meet or exceed the AA standards.

We are committed to ensuring our website is accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. This statement outlines our compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 and 2.2, and highlights areas where we are working to improve accessibility.

Our Commitment

We aim to make our website as accessible as possible and are continually working to improve the user experience for everyone. We follow best practices and use a combination of automated and manual testing to ensure compliance with WCAG standards.

Our current accessibility score is 81% (as measured by Silktide), with the following breakdown:

  • Level A: 94.8%
  • Level AA: 68%
  • Level AAA: 64%

We are actively working to improve our compliance with Level AA and AAA standards.

Accessibility Features

Our website includes the following built-in accessibility features:

  • Skip to Content: Allows users to bypass repetitive navigation and go directly to main content.
  • Colour Contrast Adjustments: Users can change the colour contrast to suit their needs.
  • Font Size Adjustments: Users can increase or decrease the font size for better readability.
  • Keyboard Navigation: All interactive elements are navigable via keyboard.
  • Screen Reader Compatibility: Listen to most of the website content using a screen reader, including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver.

We also use third-party tools, such as Google Translate, to enhance accessibility. However, we are aware that the current version of the translate tool may not fully comply with WCAG standards, and we are exploring alternatives.

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

Compliance Status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 AA standard due to ‘the non-compliances’, listed below:

  • Insufficient text contrast in some areas, including form controls and slideshow elements.
  • Missing or unclear link text, with instances of non-descriptive phrases such as "here" and "read more" that do not provide sufficient context.
  • Text contrast issues identified, particularly with form controls and call-to-action elements.
  • Issues with zoom functionality at 200% and 400%, where certain content does not reflow correctly.
  • Programmatic field purpose not correctly identified, affecting autofill and assistive technology usability.
  • Use of text within images, which cannot be resized or read by screen readers.
  • Autofocus issues when new content is added via accessibility tools.

An audit was carried out in January 2025, identifying these issues. Work is ongoing to address them, with completion expected by April 2025. We are committed to continually improving and enhancing our website’s accessibility to meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards.

Technical Information
